My narrative works are sculptural illustrations of a re-imagined world, fabrications of obscure inventions, alternate realities, and speculative futures. The stories describe a pilgrimage through time, space and dimensions.  My works are a ground to explore the truth, be it flawed, darkly humorous or peculiar, yet they speak to the stark realities of human existence. They are a mechanism through which I challenge ingrained perspectives, question the status quo, dismantle false perceptions, and confront harsh circumstances.  Read on.

The Escape

The Escape is an in-progress collection that includes a series of kinetic, sculptural illustrations as well as several accompanying mixed genre texts. The multifaceted project will tell a story about how to escape Earth (and other “earthly” situations) and travel through time, to different planets, or into other dimensions. It will also include a multitude of other useful inventions one would need as an adventure traveler.

The Underpants Parachute

The Underpants Parachute is one of my earliest inventions. This device is used for quick getaways, and narrow escapes. A necessity for all cosmic travelers.

Cloud Capturing Apparatus

The Cloud Capturing Apparatus is an essential part of The Escape plan. This machine is used to catch the clouds that will generate lift for the flying machines. The apparatus is manually operated. Bellows exert a suction, drawing the clouds through the funnel into the net where they can be easily collected and attached to the Cloud Riding Contraption.

Cloud Riding Contraption No. 1

The Cloud Riding Contraption #1 is a kinetic sculpture and the first flying machine in the series. This maiden voyager is an uncomplicated design for traveling alone. The pilot operates the propulsion system by turning one or both of the two cranks. The bricks provide added weight for lower cruising altitude.

The platform has enough room for the pilot and their adventure partner as well as a few essential belongings.

Cloud Riding Contraption No. 3

“We had flown into hostile territory. From my vantage point I could not see a safe place to land. We were running out of supplies and I wanted to set up camp and search for the portal on foot. I knew it was close, but it was hidden and a deeper investigation was needed. We flew to an area just outside of the city where we could lower the contraption."

Short Stories

Short Shorties is a visual chronicle of earthly experiences. These stories are often autobiographical. The Momento series is a collection of short narratives that translates personal reflections into intricate sculptural vignettes.

The Deeper You go the darker it gets

Above ground this may seem like an idyllic scene one would see on a leisurely amble through the countryside. However, upon closer inspection, what lies beneath is not as simple as it may appear. A cross section reveals the wellspring has dried up. What remains is a deep, damp cavity in the earth flanked by discarded, soiled undergarments and littered with cigarette butts and bottles of piss.

Memento | Maiden Voyage

“I am a sojourner, a visitor. A traveler who wanders through space, time and dimension. My mission: observe, investigate, imagine, create. Where will this voyage lead? Even if only in my mind? Perhaps I’ll stroll through the Redwood Forest, then I’ll sail around the world, and dream about flying through clouds and touching the stars.”

Maiden Voyage represents the oneiric state of being where ideas, desires and dreams are manifested.

Regulatory, Warning, and guide Signs

A mixed media sculpture that is boxed in a frame against a grey gradient background. The piece is by artist Kimberly Thomas and features various pieces of flame worked glass detritus forms in various piles on a grassy hill.

I saw a heaping pile of beat up, ragged traffic cones in an abandoned lot near the road as I drove to work. They looked like they’d been run over by mack trucks and dug out of gutters. They were dirty and crumpled. They had a hard life and were more than likely headed to the dump. Yet, they still screamed STOP! DO NOT PROCEED! It was a warning. The traffic pattern had changed. The detour that lay ahead swiftly took me to a place I’d never thought I’d go.
